What is the difference between a psychologist, Social Worker, and Counselor?

April 22, 2019

No doubt we are in a time where staying healthy is a priority. Better eating habits and commitment to exercise seem to have gained a place in our regular schedules. What we wonder about is when will the push for health recognize and include the importance of taking care of our mental well-being?

Someone recently asked why Next Direction Counseling chose a tree for its logo. It is a good question and we thought we would share the answer. An image of a tree with deep roots, sturdy trunk, branches, and leaves is a meaningful metaphor for both life and counseling.

In life, the deep roots of the tree represent our family and support system. The trunk depicts our strength. The branches and leaves symbolize relationships as some of our interpersonal connections, like tree branches, stay with us a long time while others, like leaves, are only with us briefly.

In counseling, the process often results in personal growth. For example, clients may find untapped ability, new perspectives, or helpful insights about their life course. Because counseling has potential to facilitate this personal growth, clients likely develop strength, like a solid tree, to weather life’s challenges with resilience.

Next Direction Counseling works with you in times of adversity to help you positively create the rest of your story.
